The new law will be effective on January 1, 2023, for water treatment products that do not meet the United States lead leaching standards will be banned from manufacture and sale. According to the regulations of U.S. 49 states, water treatment products for drinking water must comply with or require certification to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61. It also states that water treatment products certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 must also meet the requirements of NSF/ANSI/CAN 372. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires manufacturers or importers to have a certificate that meets an average lead content of 0.25%.
